How To Form Better Habits in 2025

Tired of writing New Year’s resolutions that never seem to stick past February? Read on for our top tips on how to form better, more long-lasting habits in 2025.

Many people make New Year’s resolutions, but 80% of those will fail by February. It’s a daunting statistic!

But rather than abandoning New Year’s resolutions entirely, it might be helpful to understand just why resolutions so often fail.

In our experience, resolutions often don’t succeed because the goals are unrealistic, there’s no concrete, measurable plan for change, or the change isn’t small enough or achievable.

Our Top Tips For Forming Habits That Stick

1. Set achievable, realistic goals

Going from being a couch potato to running half-marathons just isn’t realistic. Set small, achievable, measurable goals that you can incorporate into your existing routine, like stretching for five minutes before you shower (this is called “habit-stacking”).

2. Let go of or reduce existing commitments

Having too much on is a recipe for feeling overwhelmed. Before you add new habits, think about what you and your family want to do differently in 2025. What led to burning out in 2024? What isn’t sustainable in the long run? New habits are easier to take on if they tap into what’s important to you.

3. Set yourself up to succeed

Make sure you’re doing a new activity when you have the most energy / at the best part of the day. Reward yourself, more frequently at first. Enlist others for help and accountability. Delegate where you can. You’re more likely to succeed if you don’t go it alone!
